FRT90 Forced Reset Trigger for FN PS90
The FRT90 (Forced Reset Trigger) is a purpose-built fire-control system developed by Dorin Technologies exclusively for the FN PS90 platform. Utilizing proprietary internal geometry and a patent-pending mechanical design, the FRT90 replaces key factory fire-control components and adds a dedicated forced-reset component to enable a true 3-position selector configuration: Safe, Semi, and FRT. This system allows the shooter to select standard semi-automatic operation or semi-automatic operation with a forced-reset mechanism, enabling unprecedented trigger pull speed while maintaining full control, consistent ergonomics, and one trigger pull per round fired.
3-Position Selector: Safe (S) / Semi (1) / FRT (F)
The FRT90 utilizes a proprietary 3-position selector engineered specifically for the PS90 platform:
- Safe (S) — Mechanical safety blocks trigger movement.
- Semi (1) — Standard PS90 semi-automatic operation.
- FRT (F) — Forced-reset functionality is available when the trigger is pulled fully through the FRT activation range. Partial trigger pulls in this position behave as standard semi-automatic fire.
Distinct detents and defined selector travel provide clear tactile feedback and consistent handling.
Semi-Automatic Operation with Selectable Forced Reset
The FRT90 is engineered around the PS90’s unique fire-control geometry to deliver predictable performance across selector positions:
- Standard semi-automatic operation — Conventional trigger function with one pull per shot.
- Forced-reset operation (FRT position) — The trigger is mechanically driven forward after each shot when fully actuated, allowing faster follow-up shots while still requiring a separate pull for each round fired.
Included Components & Materials
- 17-4 stainless steel hammer — Replaces the factory polymer hammer; heat treated and nitrided.
- 17-4 stainless steel out-of-battery sear — Replaces the factory polymer sear; heat treated and nitrided.
- 6061 aluminum 3-position selector — Hard anodized; replaces the factory polymer 2-position selector.
- FRC (Forced Reset Component) — Added component
- Installation jig
All 17-4 stainless components are heat treated and nitrided for durability, wear resistance, and long-term consistency.
Compatibility
- FN PS90 only with a factory-configured semi-automatic trigger pack.
- Not compatible with full-auto trigger packs.
- Not compatible with aftermarket or modified fire-control components.
- Not compatible with any other firearm platforms, including those that may appear similar or where installation may be physically possible.
- Compatible with all PS90 barrel lengths, including 16" barrels and SBR configurations.
Installation & Setup
The FRT90 installs into the PS90 trigger pack using the included installation jig. While professional installation by a qualified gunsmith is recommended, it is not required. All safety and function checks must be performed before live fire:
- Verify the firearm is completely unloaded before disassembly.
- Follow all instructions carefully.
- Perform dry-fire and function checks in Safe, Semi, and FRT positions.
- Conduct initial live-fire testing in a controlled environment.
Legal & Compliance
The FRT90 is a forced-reset style fire-control system engineered so that the shooter must pull the trigger for each round fired, regardless of selector position. Laws and regulatory interpretations regarding forced-reset devices vary by jurisdiction and may change without notice.
The FRT90 is not available for sale, possession, or installation in certain jurisdictions, including but not limited to California, Connecticut, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Washington. Important Disclaimers
- All sales are final. No returns or exchanges.
- Certain PS90 trigger packs may require removal of a factory-installed blind pin; this condition varies by trigger pack revision.
- Design and technology are patent pending.
Nitrided Finish Notice: Certain 17-4 stainless steel components feature a nitrided surface finish. Surface coloration may vary and is not guaranteed to be a uniform black. With use, darker surface coloration may wear or polish away, revealing the underlying hardened surface. These cosmetic changes do not affect hardness, wear resistance, dimensional stability, or functional performance.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Is the FRT90 a machine gun or full-automatic device?
No. The FRT90 is a semi-automatic forced-reset style fire-control system. A separate trigger pull is required for each round fired, and the system does not enable automatic fire.
Does the FRT90 allow standard semi-automatic operation?
Yes. Standard semi-automatic operation is maintained. Forced-reset functionality is only available when the selector is placed in the FRT position and the trigger is deliberately actuated through the full FRT engagement range.
Can the FRT90 be installed on firearms other than the FN PS90?
No. The FRT90 is engineered exclusively for use in the FN PS90 equipped with a factory-configured semi-automatic trigger pack. Installation on any other firearm platform is not supported, even if physical installation may appear possible.
Is the FRT90 compatible with full-auto trigger packs or aftermarket fire-control components?
No. The FRT90 is not designed, tested, or supported for use with full-auto trigger packs, aftermarket fire-control components, or modified trigger packs.
What barrel lengths are compatible?
The FRT90 is compatible with all FN PS90 barrel lengths, including 16" barrels and short-barreled rifle (SBR) configurations, where lawful.
Is professional installation required?
Professional installation by a qualified gunsmith is recommended but not required. Proper installation, verification of safe function, and compliance with all applicable laws are the sole responsibility of the installer and end user.
Can individual FRT90 components be used separately?
The FRT90 is engineered, tested, and intended to be used as a complete system. Forced-reset functionality requires all system components to be installed together. Use of individual components outside the complete FRT90 configuration is not recommended and may result in unsafe or unpredictable operation.
Is the FRT90 legal in my jurisdiction?
Laws and regulatory interpretations regarding forced-reset style fire-control components vary by jurisdiction and may change without notice. The FRT90 is not available for sale, possession, or installation in certain jurisdictions. It is the purchaser’s sole responsibility to determine and ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws prior to purchase, installation, or use.
